At McNider Sanctuary, every horse carries a story shaped by courage, devotion, and a quiet pursuit of beauty. Nestled within the serene landscapes of Northern Québec, McNider Sanctuary was born from a deeply personal vision — not simply to breed horses, but to create a sanctuary where grace, authenticity, and natural development can flourish abundantly.

Founded by Dominique Masse, this project reflects a lifelong desire to create beauty and abundance. Because life is short, Dominique believes it should be filled with beauty at all times. These values are what give meaning to her work as a breeder and to her thoughtful choice of the Lusitano horse.

Driven by determination and an unwavering belief in her vision, Dominique chose the demanding path of high-end breeding while raising four children and caring for the 200 hectares of land that is now home to her Lusitanos. Nothing required her to follow this path except the conviction that a rare and authentic breed deserves to graze on the lands of McNider Sanctuary.

Throughout this journey, Dominique has never walked alone. Her partner, François Bérubé, has been a constant source of support, building the farm’s infrastructure by hand over the years and contributing quietly yet profoundly to the foundation of the project. Together, they have shaped a place defined by beauty and purpose.

Inspired by the elegance, sensitivity, and intelligence of the Lusitano horse, Dominique is devoted to the study of Lusitano bloodlines in order to select the finest breeding combinations for the most discerning riders. The mares and their foals are raised within her vast northern sanctuary of more than 200 hectares in Eastern Québec.
